Calvary Baptist began meeting as a Church in 1980. On June 11, 1980 we entered into a covenant as Calvary Baptist Chapel with 31 members. Our original location was a store building at the corner of US 25N and Melody Lane (the old Save-A-Lot building).
On November 8, 1981 we adopted a constitution and on November 22 of that same year we formally organized as a Church. We continued to meet each week and in October of 1983 we voted to purchase land to build a permanent building. On December 12, 1983 we signed the papers to purchase the land.
1984 was a very busy year for us. We elected a building committee consisting of Ed Richardson, Kenny Whittemore, Arnold Bratcher, Howard Abney, and Finley Holbrook to build the educational building. In May we voted to go ahead with the building of the Educational Building. On September 2 we held our first Sunday Service in the new building. We had our dedication service for the educational building later that year in November.
In late 1986 we voted to finally build the sanctuary of Calvary Baptist Church. Again we appointed a building committee. The committee consisted of Jack Hayes, Arnold Bratcher, and Rufus Whittemore. In August of 1987, Calvary met with Carpenters for Christ, a group of Christians from Alabama who are called to help build churches throughout the U.S. By November, the sanctuary was complete and we had our dedication service.
