Filled with the Spirit

Scripture Ephesians 5:18-21

We have looked at our enemies, the flesh, world, Satan, and God’s provision for us to meet these enemies. Everyone who is saved the Holy Spirit has quickened them and came to live in them. As Jesus is God’s provision for our salvation so the Holy Spirit is God’s provision for our sanctification or the living the Christian life; being conformed into the image of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit that lives in the life of every believer can be grieved and quenched.

Grieve the Spirit, Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption (Sealed)

 To grieve the Spirit is for us to do or be doing something what we should not be doing.

Ephesians 4:22-32

Quench the Spirit 1Thessalonians 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.

To quench the Spirit is we don’t do what we know we should.

1Thessalonians 5:16-19

When we grieve or quench the Spirit, His ministry turns toward us, to convict or chastise instead of through us.

Filled with the Spirit!

Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

To be filled with the Spirit is to be controlled by the Spirit.

To be filled with the Spirit is to be filled with the life of the Lord Jesus. It is to have His life manifested in our mortar flesh. It is not a matter of surrender, so as to get and to have, but of growth in Christ so as to be and to give.

It is not to be proud or gifted, but to be weak and dependent
